I opened my photography business in the fall of 2010, upgraded to a full frame camera in 2012, to my Nikon d700 which I still adore. I photographed some friends’ babies, one in 2008, one in 2009, and more as the years went by. See the silhouette in the collage below? I won ‘best photo’ for that in my Intro to Photography Class at the local community college! Watch out because then I really thought I was cool (not really!). I knew she was well into the disease when I started the 365 project, and I’m so grateful that I took that year of photos and got so many more images of my mom that I otherwise wouldn’t have. My mother passed away from breast cancer in November of that year.

At this time I thought this should be done in Photoshop, apparently! Now I know that you can get that creamy skin in-camera, without Photoshop.īefore I joined Clickin Moms, I joined a group of photographers for my 1st and only 365 project, where I took a photo a day for a year. One day I got really tired of my mediocre photos and was determined, that very day, to get some creamy skin in my photos. Yes, yes, yes! Not long after that I upgraded to the Canon 50D and the 50mm 1.4 lens, and wow! Again, I was in love. One of those moms, Susan Anderson, told me about Clickin Moms in the summer of 2008. I was on a mom forum and was introduced to the wide world of child and newborn photography! I met up with a few local photographer moms to photograph our kids. This time I got my 1st DSLR camera, it was a Canon Rebel XT and a 50mm 1.8 lens.
Several years later, after my second child was born, I was listening to my husband play the guitar and he said, “You need a hobby, too!” That is when my love of photography was reborn. I did manage to get a few fun images during my rafting days, with both a 35 mm Minolta film camera and my point and shoot camera. I went off to college, and after that I got a job working as a river guide in the Grand Canyon. This was when I found out about black and white film, and how much I loved black and white photography! How did I do with the hard light in the upper right photo below? As my passion for horses and photography grew, I spent some time combining these two loves. I grew up around horses, from the time I was in 1st grade. This was definitely when I knew I wanted to travel the world to be a National Geographic photographer…see? I’m in deep thought about it already at this young age, don’t you think? My mom planted the traveling bug too and I continued loving photography. In high school I took photography classes and I loved being in the darkroom developing film. There is a small chance I had Photographer’s Child Syndrome, at a very early age…what do you think?Īt a young age, I started sharing my mom’s 35mm film camera. But she did an amazing job of capturing my childhood and I am so grateful that she did. I remember several times, not wanting my photo taken “again”.
